Oswego, N.Y. – If July was any notification, August may be a long month for Otto Sitterly’s Novelis Supermodified competition at Oswego Speedway.

Saturday, July 21 proved to be Sitterly’s most impressive night of the 2018 season to date as the Canajoharie, N.Y., veteran wheeled his Nicotra Racing / G&I Homes / Riccelli Northern / Corr/Pak No. 7 to a dominating win in the prestigious $10,000-To-Win Mr. Supermodified 75 at the Steel Palace.

Sitterly’s fourth win in the event – his third since joining Nicotra Racing in 2007 – came two weeks after he won his first Oswego feature since September 2015.

“The car was hooked up pretty good,” Sitterly said in victory lane. “It just got a little tight at the end and that seems to be the problem with this car, but we’ve just kept sort of chipping away at it and even knocked the wall down a couple times last week, but that didn’t seem to hurt it.”

Sitterly, who started 10th, moved into the lead on lap 3 and never looked back in the 75-lapper.

Otto also qualified fastest in the timed warmup session at a 15.997 and won his 12-lap heat race.

Otto’s second feature win of the 2018 season extended his points lead in the Novelis Supermodified division.  Sitterly now holds a 44-point lead over Keith Shampine with only three August point races remaining before International Classic weekend.

Ohio’s Dave Shullick Jr. drove his Nicotra Racing / Futuri Media / G&I Homes No. 2 to a third-place result for his sixth top-five finish of the season. DJ, who has four wins so far this year, sits fourth in the points, 51 markers behind Otto in his bid for a second consecutive track championship.

Saturday’s Mr. Supermodified win gives John Nicotra Racing 40 feature wins at Oswego Speedway since the team’s debut in 2007. The team was shut out of victory lane in 2007, meaning the 40 wins – including five International Classics, seven Jim Shampine Memorial and now three Mr. Supermodified features – have come in less than an 11-year span.

Sitterly now claims 30 of those wins for Nicotra while Shullick has won nine and Hamilton one.

The Nicotra Racing team now takes a week off before a three-race August stretch to close the 2018 Oswego regular season.  Otto and DJ will be in action at Oswego on August 4, August 11 and August 18.  The Budweiser International Classic 200 will close the 2018 racing season on Sunday, September 2.

John Nicotra Racing is a Supermodified race team owned by John Nicotra with drivers Otto Sitterly, Dave Shullick Jr. and Davey Hamilton.
